Vehicle locators with built-in support for GPS/GNSS satellite positioning are increasingly used in fleet applications, due to the need to ensure the safety of vehicles, drivers, transported goods and to optimize operating costs related to routes, mileage and ensuring the efficiency of the entire fleet. Netronix, with over 25 years of tradition in designing RFID proximity radio identification devices, provides products adapted to operate in fleet applications. Examples of such solutions are the PLA-R6L and PLA-D6L RFID readers, designed in accordance with the requirements of E-mark.

Electrical equipment (including electronic equipment) intended to be fitted to a motor vehicle is considered "Electronic Sub Assembly (ESA)" or "Aftermarket Equipment" and must meet the EMC requirements of the automotive directives. For this reason, the e-Mark/E-Mark certification, which is awarded after passing rigorous EMC tests, is a certificate of compliance of the RFID device for automotive applications.

Many modern GPS/GNSS locators/trackers are equipped, in addition to modern 4G/LTE and even Bluetooth connectivity, with a wide range of communication interfaces RS232/RS485/1-Wire®/CAN for operating external devices, including RFID readers used to identify the driver. This is extremely important information for every fleet system manager in medium and large enterprises, allowing for cost optimization and control of expenses on fuel, inspections, employee costs and many others. Driver identification allows for automatic assignment of employees to the vehicle in use, and thanks to RFID technology, we can collect data such as e.g..:

  • working time of drivers - e.g. salesmen,
  • time of using a given vehicle, broken down into business and private work time,
  • km driven per driver,
  • and additionally RFID is a protection against unauthorized use of the vehicle - without the appropriate chip or proximity card, unlocking the ignition will not be possible.

Thanks to the 1-Wire® interface, GPS trackers can seamlessly cooperate with RFID readers PLA by Netronix, supporting additional functionality related to driver identification which can take place via RFID cards and transponders operating in the standards MIFARE® Classic (13.65MHz) or Unique/HITAG2 (125kHz).
